Alfredo Häberli Design Development

I chose eleven young Swiss designers whom I personally currently consider to be among the best. Obviously, that is very subjective. What is good design? Products that have a soul. They appeal to me and speak to me. Good design raises questions and provides surprising answers. How many cushions does it take to achieve coziness? Can a chair also serve as a cupboard? As a curator, I see my role in asking the designers questions that will provoke them and motivate them to enter unchartered territory. Now, I am excited to learn the answers. I hope for ideas with a firm character, for unique and distinctive products. What is novel about this line of furniture is not only the design but the overall undertaking: Thanks to Pfister, young Swiss designers have been given the extraordinary opportunity to reach out to a large audience. It would be wonderful if as many persons as possible would want to live with these designs. But does what the designers thought up in their studios also fit into the world of living out there? Do they complete the existing fittings in a sensible manner? Do they ensure exciting contrasts?

Today, interior decoration is no longer based on homogenous concepts - it is all about collages, about a mishmash that develops and grows. That's the reality that good designers see themselves facing and are aware of.

Good design is always simultaneously utopian and realistic. Eleven designers and their visions encounter reality. Accompanying this process was exciting for me.  Atelier Pfister is an outstanding pioneering project. And it is still going on: The presentation of the latest collection was in May 2021.
