Alfredo Häberli Design Development

In the former tramway waiting hall, which was converted into a mini art gallery, an exhibition about the ice-cream stick was shown at Le Palais in Neuchâtel. My design is on display together with 75 prototypes by designers from all over the world, all of which impress with their creativity, absurdity or poetics. A brilliant, intelligent and refreshing idea. We all followed the call of the two curators of the place: Denis Roueche and Prune Simon Vermot. This exhibition is part of the Printemps Culturel, an event that brings together several local cultural operators and whose theme is the Far North in 2019.

The ice-cream stick is originally an object from the industrial design of the 1980s. Today all ice-cream sticks look the same. The only originality lies in the brand name engraved on them. If the industrialists are no longer very daring with their Eskimo sticks, the designers invited by Denis Roueche and Prune Simon Vermot are no longer the same. The funny thing is that there are some really different approaches: some hyper-functional, some transformations of the classic Popsicle stick or absurd proposals, reinterpretations, daydreams...
