Alfredo Häberli Design Development

We are familiar with cantilevers from studying the history of design. We primarily know of cantilevers with round tubes or cantilevers squashed in the corners in order to stabilize statics. In the case of Jo, the challenge consisted in bending an upright profile in two different directions. If the one direction proves to be a little easier to bend in than the the other, then bending the profile is an impossibility. Certain ideas, however, can only be pursued further if manufacturers let themselves be persuaded for the impossible. And such manufacturers can still be found in Italy.
