Alfredo Häberli Design Development

In the mid-eighties, Reto Frigg developed a sofa that allowed for the seating surface to be swiveled by 90 degrees, thus transforming it into a sort of recliner. That was revolutionary and one of the most interesting designs of the time. I would have loved to have had the idea for that design myself!
So when De Sede asked me to develop something together with them - this was the first design that came to mind. De Sede continued to cooperate with other designers over the course of time but based on this last design, I expanded upon and modified the features to ensure better ergonomics and a design that would be of floating lightness. I didn't want to design a machine but create something elegant but nonetheless functional. Thanks to its delicate structure and wing-like rests, the DS-480 is pleasant to look at from all angles. This distinctive object might lean somewhat towards the masculine but in any case, it is an armchair-lounger-recliner-sofa for two seeking to polarize and one I find to be prettiest in pale natural leather.
