Shoes fascinate me just as much as books: their smell, weight, the manner in which they are made, the material, the tactile quality, the form. I would like to own more shoes. When I was in my third year of education, I was given the opportunity to carry out a six-month study project with the Bally company in Schönenwerd. I spent most of my time in the production department, working on prototypes. Since then, it has always been my dream to design a pair of shoes one day. Back then, I designed a system that was then produced as a prototype.
So many years later, I was finally given the opportunity to design a small collection of men's shoes. Campermeable is based on a concept that examines my personal requirements towards shoes. I came to the conlusion that four different shoe typologies and one pair of galoshes would cover all of my requirements. An elegant laced shoe, a loafer, a half-boot, and a sports shoe. As all these shoe types have leather soles, which I still regard as the best, I designed an over-shoe, a kind of raincoat for the shoe that, whenever the weather makes it necessary, can be worn over the other shoes. This is why we called the project Campermeable. It is a play with the words Camper and «impermeable», the Spanish word for raincoat.
